JC's Power Rankings

JC’S Weekly Top 20 Power Rankings (02/15/17)

Elimination Chamber crowned two new champions on Sunday in Bray Wyatt and Naomi. RAW also crowned a new champion in Bayley in what continued a big week in WWE. RAW was fast-paced and had multiple extremely entertaining segments most notably the Festival of Friendship. SmackDown had a phenomenal main event for the WWE championship as well.

  1. Bray Wyatt (Last Week – 6)

The era of Wyatt has officially begun on SmackDown Live and I hope it is a long reign for the eater of worlds. Wyatt eliminated both John Cena and AJ Styles inside the Elimination Chamber to pick up the win and then beat them both again on SmackDown to retain his title. I have been waiting a long time for Bray to rise to the top of the food chain and it has finally happened.

  1. Kevin Owens (Last Week – 3)

FINALLY, Kevin Owens went back to his ass-kicking ways on RAW when he turned on his best friend Chris Jericho during the Festival of Friendship. I loved the set up with Triple H pulling him aside earlier in the night. KO needs to continue his momentum as we build towards FastLane, so no matter the result versus Goldberg, he looks like RAW’s top villain.

  1. Braun Strowman (Last Week -2)

ROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRR! Braun Strowman continues to be must see TV on Mondays as he defeated Mark Henry this week and once again beat down Roman Reigns. I am very excited for Strowman versus Roman at FastLane and expect the strong build to continue in the coming weeks.

  1. John Cena (Last Week – 1)

Cena predictably lost his WWE championship inside the Elimination Chamber on Sunday. Cena then lost in his rematch on SmackDown as part of a triple threat match. Cena took the pin against Bray Wyatt and now appears officially out of the title picture. I expect some clarity on Cena’s WrestleMania plans to begin next week.

  1. AJ Styles (Last Week – 4)

The phenomenal one came up just short inside Elimination Chamber on Sunday when he was the final man to be eliminated at the hands of Bray Wyatt. Styles was part of the triple threat WWE Championship match on SmackDown, but was not pinned. This leaves the door open for Styles to get another shot, which leads me to this next superstar…

  1. Randy Orton (Last Week – 7)

The #1 contender for the WWE Championship defeated Luke Harper on Sunday and teased a confrontation with his tag team partner and new WWE Champion Bray Wyatt at the end of the PPV. On SmackDown, Orton finally faced his leader and took a knee and pledged to not face him as long as he was champion. As I eluded to above, I expect a program with Styles and the Wyatt Family to begin next week.

  1. Goldberg (Last Week – 5)

Goldberg was absent from WWE TV this week, but the void was filled by Gillberg (video at the bottom of the page)!

  1. Roman Reigns (Last Week – 8)

The leader of the Roman Empire faced The Club in a handicap match this week and was once again beaten down by Braun Strowman. I expect that trend to continue before Roman “hulks up” and wins at FastLane.

  1. Baron Corbin (Last Week – 9)

The lone wolf was surprisingly the first man eliminated from the Elimination Chamber on Sunday, as he was rolled up by Dean Ambrose after a distraction from The Miz. Corbin then beat down Ambrose leading to his elimination shortly thereafter. On SmackDown, Corbin beat up Ambrose once again and gave him a Deep Six through a table in the spot of the night.

  1. Dean Ambrose (Last Week – 11)

The Intercontinental champion has begun a feud with the lone wolf Baron Corbin. Ambrose was scouring the SmackDown locker room looking for Corbin, but it was the lone wolf who found him first. I am very intrigued by this feud and think we could finally get that street fight we were craving last year at WrestleMania from these two.

  1. Samoa Joe (Last Week – 12)

The destroyer was fantastic in his sit-down interview with Michael Cole on RAW. Normally I find these cheesy and over-produced, but Samoa Joe came off intimidating and strong. I am looking forward to seeing him work with Sami Zayn.

  1. Chris Jericho (Last Week – 13)

The segment of the week was headlined by Jeri-KO in the Festival of Friendship. Y2J got in all his comedic work and then some in one of his best performances to date. It ended ironically with a new list, “The List of KO,” with Chris Jericho being the first name on it. I loved the execution of this break up, especially because it was unexpected this soon. Jericho may have become the biggest baby face in the company.

  1. The Miz (Last Week – 10)

The most must see superstar in sports entertainment came up short inside the Elimination Chamber and took a well-deserved night off on Tuesday. I expect The Miz and Maryse to return to SmackDown next week.

14. Bayley (Last Week – Not Ranked)

Bayley won the RAW Women’s championship in the main event of RAW thanks to some help from her friend Sasha Banks. The reaction to this title change has been very split from what I have seen so far, but regardless I am very happy for Bayley. To hear my full analysis of this you’ll have to tune into the Jobber Knocker Podcast this week!

15. Neville (Last Week -14)

The King of the Cruiserweights defeated TJ Perkins on 205 Live and continues to cut top notch promos whenever he is given the opportunity. Long may he reign!

16. Luke Harper (Last Week – 15)

Harper lost to Randy Orton at Elimination Chamber in what I thought was the match of the night. Harper then attacked Bray Wyatt on SmackDown before his WWE Championship defense. I am unsure what is next for Harper, but I hope his momentum continues.

17. Naomi & Becky Lynch (Last Week – 20)

Both of these women were victorious at Elimination Chamber. Becky Lynch defeated Mickie James in a strong technical bout to kick off the show, while Naomi later won her first SmackDown women’s title later in the night. Naomi was injured in that match and was part of an extremely awkward segment on SmackDown with Renee Young seemingly rushing it along.

18. Alexa Bliss & Mickie James (Last Week – 16)

As I just stated, both of these women lost their matches at Elimination Chamber, but on SmackDown Mickie James defeated Becky Lynch in a rematch and Alexa Bliss cut yet another strong promo. I do not love the 50/50 booking and immediate rematch with Becky/Mickie, but I do like them holding off on an immediate rematch between Naomi and Alexa.

19. American Alpha (Last Week – Not Ranked)

They beat every tag team on SmackDown at Elimination Chamber. Not much else to say here.

20. Jack Gallagher (Last Week – Not Ranked)

This guy needs to be on this list. Everything he is doing is working and I look forward to him and his umbrella each week. Some would say he is extraordinary!

Fell from Rankings: Charlotte, The Club, Dolph Ziggler

Here’s some Gillberg to enjoy in my video of the week!
