JC's Power Rankings

JC’S Monthly Top 20 Power Rankings (08/23/17)

1. Braun Strowman (Last Month – 1)

The Monster Among Men was the star of SummerSlam and honestly has been the best thing in 2017. Now Braun has his sights set solely on Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship. Lesnar has been unable to do anything effective against Braun and I think that sets up an incredible storyline before they meet one on one for the first time ever. I cannot wait.

  1. Jinder Mahal (Last Month – 3)

The modern-day Maharaja retained his WWE Championship yet again at SummerSlam holding off Shinsuke Nakamura. Jinder is still solid gold as WWE Champion and I love how he continues to hold onto his title in whatever way necessary.

  1. Brock Lesnar (Last Month – 6)

The beast retained his WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam against Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, and Braun Strowman in a superb match. Lesnar was destroyed by Strowman going through two tables and being buried under another. After being stretchered away, Lesnar returned and was able to pin Reigns. Now Lesnar appears to be on a collision course with Strowman in the most anticipated 1 on 1 match of the year.

  1. Roman Reigns (Last Month -2)

The leader of the Roman Empire has not fared well on PPVs since he ended The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Reigns was pinned clean by Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam and sees himself slip in these rankings this month.

  1. AJ Styles (Last Month – 4)

The phenomenal one retained his United States championship at SummerSlam against Kevin Owens. This feud underwhelmed me despite featuring two of the very best on the planet. I am curious to see what is next for AJ and he remains one of my favorite performers on the blue brand.

  1. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins (Last Month – 18)

We all wanted a Shield reunion between these two and it delivered. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose won the RAW Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam revitalizing both of their careers. These guys have always been money together whether as teammates or opponents and I am very excited for their run as a tag team.

  1. The Usos (Last Month – 7)

The best tag team on the planet won back the SmackDown Tag Team championships at SummerSlam against The New Day. After Braun Strowman this duo has been the best thing in wrestling in 2017 and now they get to resume their dominance on the blue brand.

  1. John Cena (Last Month – 10)

John Cena cost Baron Corbin his Money in the Bank briefcase last week on SmackDown and then followed that up by defeating Corbin in singles competition at SummerSlam. Cena is now on RAW and immediately called out Roman Reigns before being interrupted by The Miz and Samoa Joe. I am very interested to see what happens between these four men because all the feud possibilities are very exciting.

  1. Samoa Joe (Last Month – 5)

I have been critical of Samoa Joe, but that does not mean I do not think highly of him. He continues to deliver and be one of the crowd favorites no matter where they go. He was the afterthought in that match at SummerSlam, but that was expected because it was the Braun Strowman show. Now Joe gets his chance to shine going toe to toe with John Cena and Roman Reigns.

  1. Shinsuke Nakamura (Last Month – Not Ranked)

The artist known as…ugh I dislike that garbage moniker as much as you guys. Nakamura has been mishandled on the main roster, but damn his entrances are special. This guy is going to be a mega star, WWE just needs to figure out the formula. They will and when that happens, look out because the sky is the limit.

  1. The Miztourage (Last Month – 13)

After being buried at the beginning of the pre-show and picking up a victory in front of an empty building it appeared The Miz’s stock was going to plummet. Well, he got his mojo back on RAW cutting an absolutely incredible promo and receiving a massive babyface reaction. The Miz is one of the absolute best and most consistent talents on the roster and oh yeah, he is still the Intercontinental Champion.

  1. Kevin Owens (Last Month – 9)

KO may have come up empty once again against AJ Styles, but I am excited for his beef with Shane McMahon. Their styles match up perfectly and I look forward to SmackDown’s execution of furthering this story.

  1. The New Day (Last Month – Not Ranked)

The New Day returns to the rankings despite losing their championships at SummerSlam. The Usos versus The New Day has been one of the top feuds in WWE lately and I hope it continues. These guys tore the house down on the pre-show proving they always belong on the main card.

  1. Finn Balor (Last Month – 17)

The Demon King made his return at SummerSlam and defeated Bray Wyatt. Finn Balor has not wrestled as the Demon since last year and the entrance at Summer Slam was superb. The match was okay, but I hope summoning the Demon is a turning point for Balor.

  1. Sasha Banks (Last Month – Not Ranked)

The Boss is now a 4-time Women’s champion after she dethroned Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam. This division needed some sort of jolt and maybe Sasha Banks being on top is a step in the right direction. Her and Alexa have at least one more match left and I am excited for their continued feud.

  1. Sheamus & Cesaro (Last Month – 8)

Shesaro may have lost their championships, but this duo remains one of the best decisions WWE has made in the past year. They are a perfect match and always deliver no matter what they are asked to do. Cesaro destroying the beach ball at Summer Slam was also a nice highlight.

  1. Alexa Bliss (Last Month – 12)

The goddess of WWE lost her title to Sasha banks, but Alexa Bliss is still one of the best performers on the roster. Her promos remain elite and I expect her to continue to raise the bar with or without the championship.

  1. Neville (Last Month – 16)

The King of the Cruiserweights regained his championship at SummerSlam after losing it 6 days before on RAW. Neville had been unbeatable before last week and it was very believable he would win his championship back. Neville needs new challengers and I am curious what WWE has up their sleeves.

  1. Bray Wyatt (Last Month – 11)

YAWN. Bray Wyatt has become a snore fest once again. His fall from grace continues after WrestleMania and I do not have a solution for him. He needs some sort of overhaul to his character because it is the same song and dance each and every week.

  1. Titus Worldwide (Last Month – 19)

I am still enjoying this stable and it has done wonders for Akira Tozawa. I would like to see something start to happen with Apollo Crews, but understandably it may not be until Tozawa and Neville are finished.
