It is WrestleMania season and everyone is stepping up their game as of late. That means we need the latest and greatest edition of JC’s Top 20 Power Rankings! Just a note, I am not ranking Brock Lesnar because he is a no show. When he returns, he will be considered for this exquisite list.
- Roman Reigns (Last Month – 5)
It is his yard and we are all just standing in it. Roman Reigns is THE GUY and is cutting the best promos of his career in this lead up to his Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. If you disagree check out Billy’s article from the other day. He literally spells it out for you. The big dog is the top dog on my list.
- AJ Styles (Last Month – 1)
The WWE Champion successfully defended his title at FastLane with a major assist from commissioner Shane McMahon. We now get the “dream match” for all you marks out there against Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34. Styles is still the top guy on the blue brand.
- Braun Strowman (Last Month -2)
Braun Strowman said he wasn’t going to whine and cry (looking at you John Cena) about not having a WrestleMania match, he was going to take one. And boy oh boy did the RAW tag team division GET THOSE HANDS on Monday Night RAW. Strowman won the #1 contender’s battle royale and will now face The Bar at WrestleMania. I love this. I’m sure they will give Strowman a partner at some point, but this was surprising and fun. Both Strowman and The Bar were without clear WrestleMania paths so putting them together is a win for us all.
- The Miz (Last Month – 4)
The Intercontinental champion continues to do what he does best and entertain us in all aspects. The Miz vs Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins looks like the show stealer on the WrestleMania card and I am enjoying every segment these guys have together. The Miz deserves to be recognized as one of the faces of the WWE.
- Asuka (Last Month – 6)
NOBODY IS READY FOR ASUKA! The Empress of Tomorrow continues to ride a wave of momentum on her road to WrestleMania picking up win after win. We now know officially (JC told you this months ago, #JCKnows) she will challenge Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s championship after showing up at FastLane. It appears Asuka will appear on both shows up until WrestleMania, which I think is a good decision.
- Alexa Bliss (Last Month – 15)
You’ll notice a theme as we move through these rankings and that is that the women’s division is really starting to make a major mark as we head towards WrestleMania. Alexa Bliss has been a dominant force in the division for two years now and her ability as a heel is unmatched in the division. If you were uncomfortable on Monday that just tells you how damn good the goddess is.
- Nia Jax (Last Month – Not Ranked)
That brings us to our next superstar Nia Jax. Nia is getting a monstrous baby face push on RAW as she is headed for a WrestleMania match against her real life best friend Alexa Bliss. We are all aboard the Nia Jax train and it seems like everyone else has jumped on as well. Nia is incredibly talented and her and Alexa have one of the best storylines going as we head towards WrestleMania.
- Shinsuke Nakamura (Last Month – 8)
The winner of the men’s royal rumble is now officially scheduled to face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. Nakamura and Rusev kicked off FastLane with my favorite match of the night. Both these guys are incredible in ring workers and it showed on Sunday. This is some good momentum for a superstar who hasn’t had much momentum at all during his main roster run.
- The Usos (Last Month – 9)
Jimmy and Jey are the best tag team on the planet. Period. Not up for discussion. It is about damn time they will not be stuck on the SIDELINES for WrestleMania. As always, I look forward to what their road entails.
- The Bar (Last Month – 14)
The team of Sheamus and Cesaro have dominated the RAW tag team division for about a year now and found themselves without a WrestleMania opponent. The Bar had beaten every team on the RAW roster, but on Monday they saw Braun Strowman become the #1 contender for their championship. Whether someone else is added to the mix or it is a handicap match, this will be great fun.
- Finn Balor (Last Month – 11)
The heavyweight who doubles as a cruiserweight continues to pick up big wins on RAW as his rivalry with Seth Rollins continues to stay red hot. I am a Balor guy like most of you and was extremely worried where he would be placed on this year’s WrestleMania card. I was delighted to find out he will challenge for the Intercontinental championship and even more so when it also involved The Miz and this next superstar.
- Seth Rollins (Last Month – Not Ranked)
After the Jason Jordan injury, Seth Rollins status was put into doubt for WrestleMania season. But the adjustment in the IC title picture allowed for Rollins to enter the fray with his natural rival Finn Balor and everyone’s nemesis The Miz. These three guys as I mentioned earlier have my attention every week and cannot wait for this match at WrestleMania.
- Rusev Day (Last Month – 12)
The duo of Rusev and Aiden English continue to be the most over act on SmackDown Live. It is a shame they come in at 13 on this list, but everyone is picking up their games for WrestleMania season. These two better find a spot on this card in some capacity because if not it will be a major missed opportunity by WWE.
- Kevin Owens (Last Month – 10)
KO was screwed by Shane McMahon at FastLane after he inadvertently super kicked the commissioner in the face (great gif by the way). His rivalry/friendship/who the hell knows with Sami Zayn is a highlight of SmackDown Live every week and I look forward to more twists and turns along the way.
- Sami Zayn (Last Month – 10)
Sami Zayn has really hit his stride ever since his heel turn many months ago. Alongside Kevin Owens, Sami was allowed to shine and has taken that opportunity and hit a home run. He should be higher on this list, but it is a numbers game unfortunately.
- Charlotte (last Month – 13)
The SmackDown Women’s champion defeated Ruby Riott at FastLane in what was a forgettable feud and can now finally move onto Asuka at WrestleMania. I hope we get cocky, arrogant Charlotte in this lead up, but only time will tell.
- Elias (Last Month – 7)
Elias plummets this month despite still being one of the most entertaining acts on either show. His WrestleMania status is uncertain, but I am sure he will get the time he deserves. Whether it is as a partner for Strowman or the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale Elias will make the most out of whatever he is given.
- Randy Orton (Last Month – Not Ranked)
The new United States champion makes his return to the rankings for the first time in months. Orton has just kind of been there recently, but finally the Viper has made a mark. This is a checked box for Orton primarily, but it puts a big name on a United States championship match at WrestleMania which will benefit all involved.
- Bludgeon Brothers (Last Month – Not Ranked)
DUUUUHHH DUH DUH DUHNT – PSSHHHHHHH! Here come the hammer twins – I mean the BLUDGEON BROTHERS (still a horrific name and apparel choice). It is tough to not notice and respect Harper and Rowan who are great performers. I can overlook the terrible gimmick because they delivered an incredible beat down at FastLane. Am a big fan of these two and still believe they will be leaving WrestleMania as tag team champions.
- Sasha Banks (Last Month – 16)
The Boss picked up another win this week as she continues her momentum headed towards WrestleMania. I still expect a singles match with Bayley at the event and think it is well deserved. WWE loves making history and this would be the first women’s singles’ match not for a title ever at WrestleMania. This is an organic storyline we have been clamoring for and we finally got it.
Fell from Rankings: Brock Lesnar, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin, The Revival
