NXT Takeover: Phoenix Preview

Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno

We got a tease of this match at the Last Takeover – I was ready for it at Takeover: War Games – but this time we will finally get it.  This one will be the exhibition of everything that these two did in the indies.  Kassius Ohno has had a rough return to NXT when it comes to Win/Loss record, however, he has a lot to give.  This has been a fun feud to watch, and I am loving Kassius Ohno as the bitter veteran who is still in NXT. When he was asking for the ‘Shiny New Toy’ I knew he was in a collision course for Riddle.

The indy fan in me got excited knowing that Riddle will bring out the best of Ohno.  Quite frankly I was disappointed when they had their six-second squash match, however, this will give the fans the match we deserve.  Expect a good mix of fast-moving action, and a little slow down technical stuff.  I think Riddle will walk off with the win again and Ohno again will move on to the next ‘Shiny New Toy.’

Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano

I think this will be the opening match, and start the show on a RIDICULOUS high.  Johnny is going to walk out with the gold with what will be the match of the night.  Between the two of them, this is going to be a wrestling clinic and set the table as a match of the year candidate.  I think Ricochet’s run in NXT will be short lived and will be called up sooner or later.  2019 is Johnny Gargano’s year, but I’ll get there in a minute…

The Undisputed Era vs. War Raiders

I picked the Undisputed Era to win this one.  It is still weird to me seeing Kyle O’Reilly tagging with someone other than Bobby Fish now that he is healthy, especially now that they get the chance to meet up with the War Raiders.  It will be back-and-forth (like I was in my prediction) and have a lot of great action, but with Adam Cole and Bobby Fish not in action and presumably ringside, they will get involved at some point and get revenge from War Games.

Shayna Baszler vs Bianca Belair

I’ve said it before and I said it again, I can’t buy into Bianca Belair as a face.  She’s undefeated, and she’s bragged about it.  I don’t see Baszler losing this match.  It’ll be messy, and we know Shafir and Duke will get involved somehow.

Tommaso  Ciampa vs Aleister Black

There is no way Aleister Black walks away with the win.  Tommaso Ciampa is going to win this one, but with a little help.

We’ve seen a lot of tease about a DIY reunion, and I think a very torn Johnny Gargano will come to ringside and distract Aleister and help Tomasso win.  Just when we thought it was the end of Ciampa and Gargano, we just keep it going.

I’m throwing it out there now. . . Gargano said 2019 is his year.  As I predicted above he becomes the North American Champion at Takeover: Phoenix.  Gargano will go full heel and reunite with Ciampa and win the Tag Team Championship.  Just when we all think they are the most dominant entity in NXT, Gargano shows his true colors as Johnny Wrestling and turns on Ciampa leading to a match for all the gold.  Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle did it in TNA in 2007 and it was, as JC says, SUPAH HOT FIYAH.  I think that the emotion of Gargano and Ciampa will raise the bar and make it something even more.  Johnny will be the one draped in gold by the end of the year, and he will establish himself as Johnny NXT.

That’s all I got for this one.  Enjoy the show and the weekend!  I’ll be back for a Takeover Recap next week!
