NXT Recap 4/10: Time for Candice To Shine

Candice LaRae vs. Aliyah

It was great to see Candice in the ring and not in the valet role for her husband.  It was never really in question, but Candice was able to get the quick victory with her version of the Lionsault.

It was very refreshing to see the crowd getting behind Candice as herself, and not chanting ‘Candice Wrestling.’  I have seen multiple reports from her peer, Deonna Purazzo, gets more “too sweet/WHOOP WHOOP” chants that her boyfriend (Marty Scurll) gets.  It’s a shame, since Deonna is an amazing superstar that I can’t wait to see get the call.  It’s ok to acknowledge these superstars as the wives or girlfriends, but let them be themselves!

Ok, off my soapbox…

We get a cell phone clip of Velveteen Dream talking trash to Buddy Murphy immediately after his match at Wrestlemania. Probably not the best time to pick on the Aussie, maybe setting up something after next week’s Superstar Shakeup…

We get the official contract signing of KUSHIDA that was originally a WWE.com Exclusive clip.  Hopefully KUSHIDA has better luck in NXT than Hideo Itami did, he is an outstanding talent and will definitely be one to watch.

Danny Burch vs. Jaxson Ryker

It’s Danny Burch’s turn to take on Ryker.  Very similar matchup to what we saw last with Oney Lorcan, with a very similar outcome.  Another very quick matchup with Jaxson Ryker winning with the Widowmaker.   The Forgotten Sons came in for the post-match beat-down.  Lorcan tried to make the save, but to no avail.  This might be leading up to more, however I think Lorcan and Burch need a friend.

Backstage interview with Shayna Baszler, who continues to be dominant.  She declared that NXT can send whoever at her, she will continue to win and defend her title.

Clip of the Pete Dunne vs. WALTER match, and a post-match interview with Pete Dunne.  All Dunne had to say is “there will be a rematch.”  I can imagine that means we should be getting an NXT UK Takeover soon!

Recap of NXT Takeover: New York’s Main Event between Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole.  Match still gives me chills!  After the recap, we get to see an altercation backstage between Adam Cole and Roderick Strong, until Cole sees the cameraman and cuts it off.  Could we see some friction in the Undisputed Era?

We get confirmation that next week the Velveteen Dream will face Buddy Murphy for the NXT North American Championship on NXT.  I enjoy when someone from the main roster gets the nod to come down to NXT.  Murphy and the Dream should give us something special next week.

Street Profits vs. Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel

The Street Profits got a good shout-out from Harlem Heat at the Hall of Fame last weekend, so now they have even more hype than before!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Montez Ford is something special.  His creative offense is outstanding, and his selling is ridiculous.  Every time that Ford nails a hot-tag to Angelo Dawkins it feels special, and the momentum seems real.

Unlike the 2 previous matches this week, this one truly showed why it was a Dark Match for Takeover.  It was fast paced and an outstanding display of Tag Team action.  Street Profits eventually won with an Avalanche Blockbuster for a very exciting victory.

#NeXTLevelPerformance

I’m bias, however it was outstanding finally getting to see Candice on her own.  She is such an outstanding superstar, and the Women’s Division needs something fresh that she can certainly help deliver.  I’m hoping that we will be seeing more of her moving forward!
