NXT UK Review 6/5: Who Is The New No. 1 Contender?

This week’s episode started out with The Hunt vs. Saxon Huxley and Tyson T-Bone. This match was ok and didn’t overstay it’s welcome. The Hunt had this thing going on during the match that whoever wasn’t in the ring was chewing on the tag rope. Also, after they won the match with a pop-up German suplex followed by a double diving headbutt from the top rope, they both started sniffing their victim after the pin. I just don’t know how I would react if someone that didn’t watch wrestling walked in on me watching those final moments. When the Hunt was posing before heading to the exit, Mark Coffey and Wolfgang attacked from behind with no real reasoning. But hey, this is the crowd’s favorite group right now so they were all for it.

The next match on the card was Kay Lee Ray vs. Kasey Owens. This was another match that really didn’t last too long. Ray would pick up the win after delivering her open hand slap/super kick/Gory Bomb combo.

After the match was a couple of promos. First up was Jinny and Jazzy Gabert. Jinny said she realized she would either have to fight Gabert or befriend her. She also added that she maybe the most fashionable and attractive woman in NXT UK but she’s not just a pretty face. She knows it takes real intelligence to get to the top and that’s where she’s going. Jinny finishes up by saying if anyone thinks they can get in her way, Gabert will take care of them. Following this, the Grizzled Young Veterans come to the ring. They are not happy that they have to defend their titles at the Download Festival. Gibson said they needed to be treated with more respect because when they are unhappy it doesn’t take long for the rest of locker room to be unhappy. After all that was said, we still don’t know who their opponents are going to be.

Our main event was next with Joe Coffey vs. Dave Mastiff vs. Jordan Devlin vs. Travis Banks in a fatal four way to decide the #1 contender for the championship . This match was great and had spots for everyone. In the end, Banks would deliver the Kiwi Crusher to Devlin after Coffey took Mastiff with him over the ropes with his discuss clothesline to become the #1 contender.

And that wraps it up for this week’s episode of NXT UK. Next week we have Dragunov vs. Joseph Conners and also The Imperium vs British Strong Style to look forward too. Also, TakeOver: Cardiff has been announced for August 31. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
