NXT UK Review 9/4: Surprise Opponent For Kassius Ohno

This week’s episode started out with Piper Niven vs Rhea Ripley. Ripley was in control for the majority of this match. She also had the majority of the crowd pulling for her and would eventually get the win after delivering her Riptide finisher. When the match was over, the announcers were quick to point out that each wrestler now has a win over each other and were wondering if there would be a third match. In other words, there will be a third match.

Following this was a recap of TakeOver: Cardiff. Which was a solid PPV from start to finish. Here’s what happened:

  • Noam Dar defeated Travis Banks
  • Cesaro defeated Dragunov
  • Joe Coffee outlasts Dave Mastiff in a last man standing match
  • Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews defeat Gallus and the Grizzled Young Veterans (c) to become the NXT UK Tag Team Champions
  • Kay Lee Ray defeats Toni Storm (c) to become the new NXT UK Women’s Champion
  • Walter (c) defeats Tyler Bate to retain the NXT UK Championship

After the recap, Sid Scala announces that Jack Gallagher is not medically cleared to fight Kassius Ohno in the main event. Johnny Saint advises that Ohno will have an opponent.

We then see the Grizzled Young Veterans after their match at TakeOver go to Johnny Saint’s office and ask for regular tag match against Webster and Morgan for the titles. Saint arranges the match for next week.

Our main event was next with Ohno coming to the ring for his match that turned out to be against…Sid Scala. This match wasn’t awful but Ohno definitely had his way with Scala. Ohno would get the win after delivering his discuss forearm to the back of Scala’s head.

And that wraps it up for this week’s episode. This show was a bit on the short side due to the focus on what happened at TakeOver but this will more than likely change next week. Which so far consist of Tegan Nox and also the Grizzled Young Veterans against Webster and Andrews for the tag titles. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
